The Mary Gibbs Scholarship

Mrs. Mary Gibbs was more than someone we served — she became family. She was one of the very first individuals I met when I started Raising Men & Women Lawn Care Service back in 2016. What began as a simple act of mowing her lawn turned into a meaningful friendship filled with porch conversations, laughter, and life lessons. I often called her my adopted grandmother, and she truly represented the heart behind our mission: love your neighbor, show up consistently, and serve with compassion. Mrs. Gibbs reminded us that this movement has never just been about lawns — it’s about people.

In honor of her life and the impact she had on our organization, we created the Mrs. Mary Gibbs Scholarship Fund. This scholarship exists to continue her legacy by supporting a young person who demonstrates leadership, kindness, and a true commitment to serving others in their community. It is an investment in the next generation of difference-makers — the very youth who are carrying this mission forward.

Our First Recipient

We are honored to announce the first recipient of the Mary Gibbs Scholarship Fund, Lamar Knight. This scholarship is named in loving memory of Ms. Mary Gibbs, a remarkable woman many of you remember from when we began mowing her lawn in 2016. She was one of the sweetest souls you could ever meet, and after her passing two years ago, we knew we wanted to honor her legacy of kindness in a meaningful way.

Lamar joined Raising Men & Women Lawn Care Service in 2017 at just 10 years old, completed the 50 Yard Challenge in 2018, and has continued serving his community ever since. He recently graduated from high school and will attend Talladega College to major in Mass Communication while also joining the college band as an accomplished drummer.

The Mary Gibbs Scholarship Fund will award five $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors who have completed the 50 Yard Challenge each year! As the fund grows, so will the opportunities to support more of our young leaders. Pictured are Mrs. Gibbs’ two daughters and their families alongside Lamar as we celebrate this special moment. Congratulations, Lamar!
